Island Unije – Pristine Nature and Historic Charm of Kvarner
The largest island in the Lošinj archipelago, Unije offers visitors a unique blend of historical heritage and unspoiled nature. Thanks to its strategic location at the entrance to Kvarner, freshwater springs, and fertile soil, Unije has been inhabited throughout history, as evidenced by numerous archaeological finds on land and underwater. The northern and eastern sides of the island are steep and rocky, while the southern and western sides form a bay that hosts the island’s only settlement. This picturesque village is known for its olive groves, fertile fields, and houses with wide facades that reflect the charm of authentic Mediterranean living. The island’s highest point is Kalk (132 m), and the Maracol Bay on the western side provides a safe harbor for boats. The island is car-free, offering peace and tranquility to all visitors. Locals provide accommodation in rooms and apartments, and there are restaurants, shops, a bakery, and a post office. Regular ferry lines connect the island with Mali Lošinj and Rijeka, while catamaran services operate several times a week.Island Unije – A Historical Haven of Natural Beauty
